• Before & After: Polywrap Makes All The Difference!

When reupholstering a piece of furniture for a client, there are so many times I find myself not understanding the former upholsterer’s execution of work. Well, that isn’t the case for today’s #beforeandafter! No siree, Bob. Nope, these six dining room chairs originally embodied what I’ve grown to despise in my industry of business = cheapness, laziness, and an overall lack of craftsmanship! And if it sounds like I’m going to be critical here, that’s because I am ;)

For starters, the placement of the decorative tacks were hammered in every other direction than straight, causing immense damage to the wood around said tacks. The ivory fabric wasn’t stretch tight or evenly around its curves. But that’s also probably happened because there was no polywrap between each chair’s foam and fabric. Yes, you read that correctly, fellow upholsterers reading this! There was NADA polywrap covering the foam, which as we all know thus causes friction between the foam and fabric when stretching, AND further down the line, causes premature tearing of the fabric. I mean the ONLY explanation for such an oversight is THIS upholsterer was cutting his/her supply costs by leaving the polywrap out. The poor “tack” job was caused by either a lack of skill or a demanding work flow OR he/she just didn’t care like I care. And that’s what seperates Homebird Upholstery from the rest.

“My mission in life is to preserve craftsmanship.” — Waris Ahluwalia

I am NOT one of the fastest upholsterers but I am, however, one of the best. In my line of work, I wish the “wack and tack” shops out there would just slow down and take greater pride in their work. I wish the act of upholstery could be for all more about quality and less about the quantity of clients. THEN meant-to-be-beautiful chairs like these can be upholstered right the first time and last a lot longer than these did. But maybe I’m alone in this. Maybe other upholsters just want the repeat clientele?!

  • Flower Power

While the unofficial last weekend of Summer has come and gone and we are patiently awaiting the arrival of the first day of Fall, I have been wearing my favorite outfit from the Victoria Beckham x Target collaboration on repeat = a flower-tastic two-piece set that I’ve paired with some of my favorite things!

    My still-obsessed-with Kate Spade spotted frames . . .

    My “Iris Apfel-inspired” statement necklace by ASH + AMES . . .

And my “orange you glad I got this on-sale” purse ;)

Oh, and don’t forget about those flower-studded Converse’s either! Lol. When you mix all these individually unique pieces together, you’ve got yourself an instaHAPPY look that has been my go-to all summer long! I wonder what my favorite attire of Fall will be . . . any predictions??

  • Teardown Tuesday

Lately [via social media] I have been getting requests to share more behind-the-scenes footage from my upholstery studio. This made me realize that I don’t do an overall great job of promoting my true love of design :/ and although design encompasses style, I don’t necessary like how fashion has come to dominate my blog. I mean don’t get me wrong – this #stylecrazed gal still loves her clothes but that’s NOT what I want to be known for = just another fashion blogger. I am a creative down to my very core, so while I rethink my entire personal brand the next few months, I am going to START sharing exactly what’s being requested more of ;) so please enjoy my first-ever time-lapse video of a typical “Teardown Tuesday“!

  • Overall Bliss

Ever since starting my upholstery business five years ago, I have found myself gravitating towards overalls for my workday wardrobe = doesn’t matter the shade nor the length, if you have overalls in your brick and mortar shop or your online boutique, chances are I have contemplated buying them . . .

SO, of course I was a “Sucker – Party of One” when I ran across this particular pair of overalls from Free People with its unique deep-V and flared-capri bottoms; quickly AFTER I had already fell in love with them [however] I discovered that not any ole top would work with these denim beauties :/

I needed either a baby tee with a vocal point directly in the middle of the chest [still hunting for that btw] OR a shirt that had a fun interesting repeat = ENTER the Cheers Blouse by Cabi! This champagne-colored sheer piece with its ombré dot pattern was exactly what this style-crazed gal was looking for!

I LOVE how it adds a downright playful vibe to this somewhat old-school feeling number while it’s poly chiffon fabric ALSO helps me stay cool when wearing fall-inspired outfits in San Diego‘s lingering Summer weather [yes, I’m talking about you, soon-to-be Santa Anas!] classic button front is just a bonus!

Then you add some dark frames, these cute velvet loafers [also by Cabi!] and a vintage radio-looking clutch and you’ve got yourself an outfit that screams with a triple-threat of character, autumn, and back-to-school AND it all started with just a pair of overalls!

Like it or don’t, I haven’t been this into overalls since my high school days ;) when I would rock a dark Quicksilver pair with a subtle flared leg and my favorite tye-dyed tee [think Laney Boggs from She’s All That] I just adore how they fit to my body AND how I feel with them on. Don’t knock’em until you try them!

  • Cabi Blogger Day!

One month from today, y’all, the first day of my absolute favorite season will be here, SO I thought it was definitely time to share with you the pictures from my Cabi Blogger Day experience, where I not only got an exclusive preview of Cabi’s Fall 2017 Collection but was also spoiled at every turn!

From start to finish, this day-long experience was absolutely delightful.

I had the pleasure of meeting seven other fabulous style bloggers . . .

Along with having breakfast with the Cabi Executive Team!

After the Meet & Greet, it was all about the design and the creative vision behind Cabi’s Fall 2017 Collection!

Where we ALL oo-ed and awed AND even salavated over these new fantastic wardrobe items ;)

Next, my girl crush, Eboni [Cabi‘s Senior Marketing Manager] gave us a private tour of their warehouse.

From there, we learned about Cabi’s Stylist Career Opportunity . . .

And then this happened = we were surprised with a professional photoshoot where [wait for it] we were able to wear items from Cabi’s Fall 2017 Collection. Yeah, I think you can tell how happy I am ;) I sort of look like a child on Christmas morning with a hangar stuck in my mouth! Haha.

“I love funky styles. Not preppy or rock, just funky!” — Vanessa Hudgens

But honestly, although great in nature, the pictures really don’t do the entire experience justice, so I’ve decided to include the Cabi Blogger Day video as well ;) it really gives a better BTS look!

A HUGE thank you to everyone at Cabi who made my Cabi Blogger Day experience so memorable! It’s not a memory I will soon forget. Stay tuned for my next blog post featuring one of the many new looks from Cabi’s Fall 2017 Collection that I’ll be sharing with you throughout this fall — now bring on those cooler temperatures, y’all!!
