Husband’s Shirt

Okay, so don’t that title fool you = this is NOT my husband’s shirt . . . HOWEVER, it fits just like one :) see a few years back [when we were still living in the Carlsbad Village] I acquired this Marc Jacobs shirt as a FINAL SALE item [my apologies as I don’t remember what merchant] from the looks of it online, it seemed to be more fitted, but once it arrived to our house, I quickly discovered it was boxy AF :( which was not so great for a string bean like myself AND I couldn’t return it. Grrr. I did still love it though with it’s classic white and blue stripe mixed with this “I didn’t even know I could ever love a floral” print – not to mention, the cute but oh-so random pocket on its bottom left. It was simply unique enough that I soon became determined to make this shirt work.

I honestly tried everything, y’all = wearing it “as is” untucked with jeans [silly] open with another shirt underneath [just awful] paired with overalls [looked like the Stay Puft Marshmallow Man on top] BUT it wasn’t until I figured out the subtle art of tying a front knot that this shirt transformed from a FINAL SALE FAIL to a STAPLE PIECE in my closet that I wear AT LEAST once every two weeks. I do this by leaving the last button at the bottom of the shirt unbuttoned. I then gently fold the back shirt tail under and continue that lite fold around the front. I finish by tying the front two parts of the shirt in a loose but attractive knot. Yep, easy as that AND it creates the illusion that I totally meant to wear this button-up shirt like this from the get-go! HAHA.

“I don’t know, but I always loved that image of a girl putting toenail polish on a guy – her boyfriend, or something like that. Or a guy waking up in the morning and reaching over and putting on his girlfriend’s shirt. Like Keith Richards putting on one of Anita Pallenberg’s blouses, or Courtney Love putting nail polish on Kurt Cobain.” — Marc Jacobs

Pretty cute and chic, right?! Now, every time I wear this shirt I think about those scenes in Someone Like You, where Ellen Barkin‘s wearing the shirt Ashley Judd‘s character purchased for Greg Kinnear [God, I love that movie!] I mean even though I couldn’t stand Ellen’s character, because well, we ALL wanted Ashley to end up with Greg, I still thought she looked effortlessly FAB in it! Lol. What do you think about my front knot solution? Clever? Blah? I’d love to read your thoughts below! Stayed tuned for another #stylecrazed post this Friday – it’s going to be BANANAS, y’all! And I’m not referring to the Chiquita kind ;) haha! Now go have a wonderful day!
