As a child, Halloween was never about being pretty or dressing up like some princess. Nope. For me, it was all about playing some unusual character. I’ve never been hesitant about being myself or embracing my inner nerd and I’m proud to type that “that” sense of self has translated well into my adulthood. You could see it in me growing up and the characters I used to play on stage . . . and you can see it now in how I live my life and how I dress on a daily basis. I also think it was pretty apparent this week in all of the costumes I came up with by shopping my own closet.
So today, the Friday leading into Halloween weekend, I am happy to share with you my fourth and final costume this year = a Ghostbuster [a.k.a. a bad-ass scientist] inspired by both the 1984 and 2016 Ghostbusters movies!
I cannot even begin to tell y’all how thrilled I was when I discovered that they were remaking one of my favorite childhood movies — only this time with all leading ladies [HELL YEAH!] this coming from the girl who had a puffer fish named Slimer as a kid. I’m seriously not joking.
So needless to say, this summer’s blockbuster was a dream come true for me and I honestly hope they continue to remake movies with all female casts, because, well, girls can be bad ass too. I mean did you see that former Cornhusker on Ninja Warrior this year?! But I digress . . . back to the costume!
Okay, so yeah, you might be thinking = “Umm, Jenna. You really had all of these items in your closet for this costume.” The answer is no. Yes, and I did buy three items for this costume [unlike the others this week] but nothing that broke the bank.
Then the only other purchase I personally felt that I HAD to make was a proton pack, because a Ghostbuster is only as good as his/her scientific knowledge and, well, proton pack ;) lol. This one is actually for a child and was made but Mattel, but it fits and that’s all I needed to take this costume from good to stellar.
And as to the rest of my costume, yes, the other items were already in my closet. The red glasses were the third or fourth pair I’ve ever owned, the jumpsuit is by Citizen’s of Humanity and I wear it when I’m upholstering, and the boots, well, I don’t know where they actually came from but they were in my closet! Haha. Probably from an old costume, play or something. Who knows! I’ve done a lot in my [almost] thirty-two years.
This costume makes me so giddy with excitement, folks :D and will most likely be the one I wear all weekend to my Halloween functions. It just turned out way better than I could have imagined. Plus, it doesn’t hurt when you have an uber talented photographer. Thanks Henry!
So what are you going to be for Halloween?Did I inspire you to shop your own closet for your costume? I’d love to read your feedback. Until next week, have a safe and HaPpY Halloween, y’all. It’s been my pleasure sharing my love for this holiday with you.
