One of the travesties of growing older is how little opportunity we have as adults to dress up. I mean think about it. There’s no more homecomings. No more proms. We mostly have two types of the clothing = what we wear to work and what we wear for play :( luckily for me, however, I have had one night the past three years I can always count on for a formal good time and that is Finale Night of Fashion Week San Diego’s Annual Runway Shows; where it’s either go big or go home!
Which one do you think I went with Saturday night? Haha! Yeah, I definitely decided to go big this year . . . but then again, maybe “bold” is a better word? ;) Either way, it’s the most dramatic outfit I’ve worn to Fashion Week thus far in San Diego with it’s Lady Gaga-esque shoulders, plunging-V, and futuristic thighs.
The main reason I gravitated towards this dress is simple [well more of a given at this point in our relationship] it was in fact the color. SHOCKER! Lol. But that wasn’t the only reason. Nope! It was also because its gorgeous red hue happens to be my girlfriend, Allison Andrews‘, favorite color too, WHO is the founder and director of Fashion Week San Diego. See, I’ve been so insanely proud of her this past year [prouder than I ever thought possible] she ceases to amaze me at every turn with her entrepreneurial bad-ass ways AND THEN she added motherhood on top of her already long list of accolades and she seriously hasn’t missed a beat??? I honestly don’t know how she does it but it’s incredible and I wanted to honor her in my own special way that night.
Once I decided on this dress, I knew immediately I wanted to incorporate black and gold undertones to the ensemble, starting with my contemporary cat glasses, a newly acquired “microphone” earring/necklace set [how could a Musical Theatre nerd like me resist?] and my first Kate Spade anything = my trusty “OFF WE GO” California license plate clutch! From there, I rummaged through my closet for some stylish black pumps and landed on these Sam Edelman‘s I had leftover from my 2000’s Pink Lady photoshoot that sadly never made their way into the cut of any pictures . . . and HUZZAH! An outfit was born! And my look ended up being just as breathtaking as the second night of Fashion Week San Diego 2016 with its remaining thirteen designers cat-walking their creations down that long runway at the equally as astonishing Hotel Jolla; which [by the way] proved to be the perfect backdrop for such fashionable festivities with its recently-updated decor that made this artistic heart of mine skip a beat!
Besides the location, the night was also extra special for me because our darling doxie, Nella Sue, was asked to be a model [yes, a model – can you believe it?] by my blogger friend, Heather of The Stylish Bisou, for her one-of-a-kind doggie clothing line [a first for the traditional fashion week world] and I, of course, was all for it! Sadly, I’m not sure Nella was as an enthusiastic about the whole ordeal, giving Louie of 656 Photography her “I don’t want to be here” look on the red carpet. Either way, I was so proud to watch her make her way down that runway. You can see one picture of “America’s Next Top Model” ;) by clicking here.
Finale Night is always a little bittersweet for me because I wait and wait for this one week the entire year, and in a blink of your designer-loving eye, the entire experience is almost over! Thankfully, though, Fashion Week San Diego has exceptional photographers like 656 Photography that document the whole week so well, so you can live it again and again.
