If you’re anything like me, every fall you eagerly await for the arrival of the Vogue “September” issue in your mailbox. For years, it’s been my saving grace for my fashion fix, and that was completely true, UNTIL I attended my first Fashion Week here in San Diego three short years ago. Now, every first week of October, you can find this #stylecrazed artist enjoying her Fashion-mas — a time where I can dress my very quirky-best and watch local fashion designers’ visions come to life on a runway right here in America’s Finest City.
You read that correctly, folks = San Diego has its very own traditional fashion week, and last week, Fashion Week San Diego 2016 had two back-to-back nights of runway shows at the recently-renovated Hotel La Jolla in [you guessed it] La Jolla. For Friday night’s fashion presentation, I decided to dress outside my norm and wore a long dress by Mara Hoffman. Say WHA?!?!? Yes, I know. I’m usually very anti-maxi dress, but sometimes you try on an article of clothing on a whim and, well, just fall and fall hard. Both the touch of the soft linen fabric and the whimsical cloud pattern made it hard for me to resist, so instead of fighting the urge, I just went for it and I must say I am sure happy I did!
After deciding to breakdown my own barriers, I figured the sky was the limit, so I also wore my hair up, which is something I NEVER do in public! But I guess it’s true what they say = NEVER SAY NEVER! From there, I broke out my white glasses from our 2015 elopement, and then kept with the neon effect of the cloud print by introducing a playful necklace with miniature badminton shuttlecocks [I’m not going to lie :) that word makes me snicker every time I say it] my “Color Pops” Kate Spade clutch, and these super cheap Jessica Simpson pumps I found on Amazon for only 30 bucks to help complete the ensemble.
For whatever reason, this choice in clothing made me feel like a kid again. I was so full of life that evening, laughing, and having fun with my fellow stylish girlfriends and bloggers. Maybe it was the outfit, or maybe, just maybe it’s because Fashion Week San Diego is my favorite week of the year ;) and let me tell you, 2016’s runway shows did not disappoint, splitting this year’s 26 designers between two different programs. One on Friday night and the other on Saturday.
Besides seeing 13 designer’s collections, like Fashion Week San Diego’s 2015 Designer of the Year =B.JASH.I, Friday night was extra special with the return of FWSD’s Annual Haute Dog Fashion Show, where adoptable dogs from the Rancho Coastal Humane Society wagged their tales down the runway in hopes of finding their forever home . . . if I didn’t already have three furbabies of my own at home and didn’t think it would cost me a husband [haha!] I would have TOTALLY taken one of those adorable pups home to Pauma Valley Country Club!
Needless to say, I had a blast at the first night of Fashion Week San Diego’s 2016 Runway Shows. Hotel La Jolla was the perfect venue, the designers brought their A-game, and my cup runneth over from a time well spent.
