On Sunday, me and D went on a little shopping spree. He needed suits for work and I, well, needed to work on my love/hate relationship with my summer wardrobe . . . and overall, I think it would be save to say that we won ;) HOWEVER, when we got home and examined our already jam-packed closets [yes, we are BOTH bit of a “clothes horse”] it was overwhelming. SO, D in his usual brilliance grabbed some trash bags and got to thinning!
There is something surprisingly therapeutic about cleaning your closets. Now, I’ve never been a big fan of the whole “spring cleaning” concept. I usually do my major organizing right before the holidays hit [remember Fall Forward?] I also probably don’t love it, because getting rid of stuff sends me into an emotional spiral of confusion:
Do I keep this?
Man, I loved that style that year.
What if someone has a party themed [blank]?
I know I haven’t worn this in two years, BUT I wore it on that day that [blank] happened.
Are you starting to see the picture? D, on the other hand, is really good at deciding what to keep and what to toss. He definitely had a bigger Goodwill pile than I, BUT with his help, I actually made some tough fashion decisions too. And you know what? Our closets are looking pretty fit because of it.
“Your closet needs to be a place of joy and celebration of who are you now – not who you were.” – Stacy London
So, no matter how painful it is, I’ll be the first one to admit that a little clutter busting is always a good thing!
