FWSD’s First Annual Spring Showcase

On Saturday, I had the extreme pleasure of attending Fashion Week San Diego’s First Annual Spring Showcase.

FWSD’s First Annual Spring Showcase

The occasion was held at the recently renovated Harrah’s Resort Southern California and gave its party guests an exclusive preview of each of the 34 Fashion Week San Diego’s 2014 designers.

Now for those of you who are not completely familiar with this organization, Fashion Week San Diego (FWSD) was established with the traditional concept of a fashion week. HOWEVER, it is not just seven days of runway shows, but also a whole year of events. Founded back in 2008 by its director, Allison Andrews, FWSD continues to highlight the fashion and beauty industry right here in “America’s Finest City” and is currently the only bi-national fashion week in the world. [How cool is that!?] It has also become a launching pad to help get designers into NYC Fashion Week, national magazines, television, retail stores . . . persisting to out perform itself year after year; tripling in growth in 2013 alone.

And after attending their Spring Showcase, I could totally see why.

Besides the two runway shows, Saturday’s affair also included a live musical performance by Aquile from The Voice, 50-75% off sample sales, a photo booth, champagne, cupcakes, complimentary mini makeovers, hair blowouts, AND fashion sketches by Launch Live Art. It was simply a sensational experience combining every thing this gal loves ALL in one location! Plus, I was able to discover a new designer crush = Danh Ta – a Texas-based fashion entrepreneur who seems to share my exact love for textural, colorful fabric. The lines of his designs and use of velvet in the previews left this #stylecrazed woman a little weak in the knees ;) I was also able to spend a few moments with him directly, seeing his works of art firsthand, and WOW, such a talent! I am just sure that one day he will be a known name in the fashion industry. Mark my words.

“For some people, Fashion Week lasts all year long.” – Allison Andrews

Anyway, as you can read, I had a pretty fantastic time this weekend, and if this was any inclination as to what to expect from FWSD, the first week of October is going to be a fashionably-fun one!
