That’s right. The January Cure is almost over and I’m tooting my own horn. Yep, I’m proud of myself. The month wasn’t perfect but it did help me accomplish some household chores I otherwise would have not done for months. Plus, it made this January the first year ever I haven’t had the “Holiday Hangover Blues.” [Hell yay!] I guess progress does really make a happy lady.
I was in luck because D and I had done an extensive thinning out before the move. The only downer is we don’t have a bookshelf quite yet so all of our hardcover treasures are currently sitting in neat little stacks in the Music Room. Oh, well. I’m not going to let the perfection ruin the good. I just need to get my butt in gear and shop around for a carpenter to build this bookworm bookshelf we’re obsessed with [the actual one costs $10,000. Who would pay that?]. We’ll have it built and I can paint/stain it myself and add all the little finishes. I AM CRAFTY WOMAN – HEAR ME ROAR!
Overall, our love nest is pretty tidy. It’s crazy how much a move can help with the whole “organize your shit” concept. I did a quick double-check though, but everything was in its place. The only real “to-do” item I could find was to hang our green wall rack in the closet. [I mean I do need somewhere to hang my beloved, oversized flannels]. Once the installation was complete, I made a note to buy a full-length mirror and to have our Andy Warhol “Love” Giclee eventually framed.
Oy vey! This will be an ongoing endeavor. There were too many papers, not enough time [at least this month], and I felt inadequate in my supplies. It’s nothing a NeatDesk Desktop Scanner and Digital Filing System can’t handle [yes, the info commercial has sucked me in] but it’s not on the top of my shopping list, so I did a quick tidy of the office cabinets and that was that.
I didn’t get this one under control in the least bit as every place I went to buy cable ties seemed to be out. It’s not a huge deal. I put them on my shopping list and the next time I see some, I’ll grab them up and skip my way to a cash register.
Since I shed more than all three of our dogs combined, this is a good monthly task ;) I wiped out all the drawers and put the toiletries in an orderly fashion; makes getting ready in the morning much more pleasant.
The big final weekend of stuff . . . I washed the dog beds, thinned out the coat rack [my stuff really accumulates there], and resituated the items on our mantle. Yesterday, I took my Outbox to the Goodwill Drop-Off on La Costa and bought some yellow roses at Trader Joe’s. I’ve come to a conclusion: there is nothing better than fresh flowers in your home. Otherwise, I need to condition the leather furniture and make/buy pillows. Not too shabby.
I did not utilize or “seize the day” on this one. Like I said before, I blame last week’s no sunshine for my “I don’t wanna” attitude. I like rain and a cloudy day every now and again, but I’m like Superman. The sun is my main source of energy. Looking back though, I do realize now I should have sucked it up and did something on my list. I guess being crazy busy yesterday and today is my payback.
